Colombia welcomes 50 US grantees as a result of the Fulbright international mobility reactivation

The Commission for Educational Exchange between the United States of America and Colombia (Fulbright Colombia) with the support of the United States Embassy in Colombia, the Ministry of National Education, ICETEX, SENA and educational institutions tertiary, makes possible the arrival of 50 American grantees of the Fulbright Colombia.

Fulbright Colombia welcomes 42 US grantees from the Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA) program, who will help strengthen English language instruction in Colombian tertiary education institutions, and 8 US grantees from the Fulbright U.S. Student Researcher program, who will carry out research projects in universities or research centers in Colombia for a period of six to ten months.

Of these 50 American grantees from the 2021 cohort there are 33 women and 17 men, who will go to 17 cities and municipalities throughout the Colombian territory including Bogotá, Bucaramanga, Medellín (56% of the grantees), and many other Colombian cities. Of this group, 82% will spend their residence in support of the teaching of English in tertiary education institutions: 51% in public institutions and 49% in private institutions. Of the grantees belonging to research and teaching programs 26% will be linked to private institutions, 62% to public institutions and 12% to non-governmental organizations.

The Fulbright English Teaching Assistant Grant (ETA) is aimed at tertiary education institutions in Colombia interested in receiving one or more American native English speaker to support English teaching according to the host institution’s needs for a 10 month period. This program seeks to strengthen English as a second language and is aligned with the policies of the National Bilingualism Plan of the Ministry of National Education.

The Fulbright U.S. Student Researcher allows young Americans, master’s or doctoral students or recent graduates, to carry out research activities in a university or research center in Colombia, in all areas of study, for a period of six to ten months.
